About NorthMarkets and the Nature of Our Content

NorthMarkets is a Canadian personal finance information and education website. Our mission is to publish accessible, well-researched, and editorially independent content designed to help Canadians better understand topics related to personal finance, budgeting, saving, investing concepts, credit, debt management, taxes, insurance, retirement planning, and related subject matter. We believe that greater financial literacy leads to better outcomes for individuals, families, and communities across Canada.

All content published on NorthMarkets – including but not limited to articles, blog posts, guides, comparison tables, calculators, opinion pieces, newsletters, social media posts, and any other materials produced or distributed under the NorthMarkets brand – constitutes editorial opinion and general informational content only. This content is created for broad educational and informational purposes and reflects the opinions and research of our editorial team at the time of publication.

We take our responsibility as a publisher of financial content seriously. However, you must understand that reading or engaging with our content does not create any professional relationship between you and NorthMarkets or Auburn AI, and nothing on this Website should ever be construed as personalized financial, investment, tax, legal, insurance, or professional advice of any kind.

Important Disclaimer: Not Investment or Financial Advice

The content published on NorthMarkets is strictly for general informational and educational purposes. Nothing on this Website constitutes investment advice, financial advice, tax advice, legal advice, insurance advice, or any other form of professional advice regulated under applicable Canadian law.

NorthMarkets, Auburn AI, and all individuals who contribute to this Website – including writers, editors, researchers, and any other staff or contractors – are not registered investment advisors, portfolio managers, financial planners, tax professionals, lawyers, insurance brokers, or any other category of regulated financial professional under the laws of Alberta, any other Canadian province or territory, or any applicable federal Canadian legislation, including but not limited to the Securities Act (Alberta), the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) framework, the Mutual Fund Dealers Association of Canada (MFDA) framework, or regulations administered by the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) or any successor regulatory body.

We are not registered with, licensed by, or subject to oversight from the Alberta Securities Commission (ASC), the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO), or any equivalent provincial, territorial, or federal financial regulatory authority in any capacity that would authorize us to provide personalized financial or investment advice to individuals or entities.

Any reference to specific financial products, securities, funds, strategies, interest rates, tax rules, or any other financial instruments or concepts on NorthMarkets is made purely for illustrative, educational, and editorial commentary purposes. Such references do not constitute recommendations to buy, sell, hold, or otherwise transact in any specific financial product or security. Past performance discussed on NorthMarkets is never indicative of future results.

Information about financial products, rates, fees, and regulatory rules changes frequently. While we make reasonable efforts to keep our content current and accurate, we cannot guarantee that every piece of information on this Website reflects the most up-to-date rules, rates, product terms, or regulatory requirements. You should always independently verify important financial information before making any decisions.

Consult a Licensed Canadian Financial Professional

Before making any financial decision – including but not limited to decisions related to investing, retirement planning, tax filing and planning, debt repayment strategies, insurance coverage, estate planning, real estate transactions, or any other significant financial matter – you are strongly encouraged and advised to consult a qualified, licensed Canadian financial professional who is registered with the appropriate regulatory body in your province or territory.

Depending on your specific needs, this may include:

Financial Advisors and Planners: Look for individuals holding recognized designations such as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation, who are registered with applicable regulatory bodies and authorized to provide advice in your province. In Alberta, financial advisors may be regulated under the Securities Act (Alberta) and overseen by the Alberta Securities Commission.

Investment Advisors and Portfolio Managers: If you require personalized investment advice or discretionary portfolio management, seek out individuals or firms registered with the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) or the Alberta Securities Commission. These professionals are subject to proficiency standards and regulatory oversight designed to protect Canadian investors.

Tax Professionals: For personalized tax advice, tax return preparation, tax planning, or guidance on the application of the Income Tax Act (Canada) to your specific situation, consult a qualified accountant holding a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or another licensed tax professional in your province.

Insurance Professionals: For advice regarding life insurance, disability insurance, critical illness coverage, home or auto insurance, or any other insurance product, consult a licensed insurance broker or agent registered in Alberta or your applicable province or territory.

Legal Professionals: For matters involving estate planning, wills, powers of attorney, contracts, real property, or other legal questions with financial implications, consult a lawyer licensed to practice in Alberta or your applicable province.

The general information provided by NorthMarkets cannot substitute for the personalized, professional guidance that a licensed advisor can offer based on a thorough understanding of your individual financial situation, goals, risk tolerance, time horizon, tax circumstances, and applicable legal context.

We make reasonable efforts to ensure that the information published on NorthMarkets is accurate, current, and balanced at the time of publication. However, personal finance is a dynamic field. Interest rates, tax rules, contribution limits, regulatory requirements, product features, and market conditions change frequently, sometimes with little notice. Canadian tax law, securities law, and financial regulations are subject to ongoing legislative and regulatory changes at both the federal and provincial levels.

Always consult a licensed professional and verify figures with official sources such as the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), the Bank of Canada, or the financial institution directly.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law in the Province of Alberta and Canada, NorthMarkets, Auburn AI, and their respective directors, officers, employees, contractors, agents, licensors, and successors (collectively, the “NorthMarkets Parties”) shall not be liable for any loss, damage, injury, or harm of any nature whatsoever arising from or in connection with your use of, or reliance upon, any content, information, tools, calculators, opinions, or other materials available on NorthMarkets.

Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms, your use of NorthMarkets, and any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Website (whether based in contract, tort, statute, fraud, misrepresentation, or any other legal theory) shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Alberta and the applicable federal laws of Canada, without regard to any conflict of law principles that would result in the application of the laws of any other jurisdiction.

You irrevocably agree that the courts of competent jurisdiction located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada shall have exclusive jurisdiction to hear and determine any dispute, claim, or action arising out of or in connection with these Terms or your use of NorthMarkets. You irrevocably submit to the personal jurisdiction of those courts and waive any objection to proceedings in such courts on the grounds of venue, inconvenience of forum, or any other grounds.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, NorthMarkets and Auburn AI reserve the right to seek injunctive or other equitable relief in any court of competent jurisdiction to protect our intellectual property rights or prevent any actual or threatened unauthorized use of the Website or its Content.

If informal resolution is unsuccessful within thirty (30) days of written notice (or such longer period as mutually agreed), either party may proceed to pursue available legal remedies in the courts of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, as described in the Governing Law section above.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, illegal, void, or unenforceable under applicable law, that provision shall be deemed modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or if it cannot be so modified, it shall be severed from these Terms. The remainder of these Terms shall continue in full force and effect. The invalidity or unenforceability of any particular provision shall not affect the validity and enforceability of any other provision herein.
