Editorial Policy
NorthMarkets publishes content about Canadian markets, personal finance, and investing. Because this content can affect financial decisions, we hold ourselves to specific editorial standards. This policy explains how we produce content and how to interpret it.
Who writes here
NorthMarkets is published by Alexander McGregor through Auburn AI, a Calgary-based sole proprietorship operating since 2026. Alexander has a personal investing background and a long-running interest in Canadian retail finance, especially TFSA / RRSP / FHSA optimization, REIT analysis, and Canadian-specific tax-account sequencing. He is NOT a registered financial advisor (no CFP, no IIROC license). All content reflects personal research, not professional advice.
How we produce content
Articles combine three inputs:
- Real-time data from Yahoo Finance, CoinMarketCap, the Bank of Canada, and Statistics Canada APIs
- News context aggregated from public sources (CBC, BNN Bloomberg, Globe and Mail business section, Reddit r/PersonalFinanceCanada, Hacker News finance threads)
- AI assistance from Anthropic’s Claude model for research synthesis and drafting, with editorial review by Alexander before publishing
Editorial standards
- We do NOT recommend specific securities to buy or sell
- We do NOT predict short-term market direction
- We DO explain mechanics (how an account type works, how a tax rule applies, how a market structure affects retail investors)
- We DO surface tradeoffs and dissenting views
- We label opinions as opinions and data as data
- We disclose affiliate relationships at the top of any post containing affiliate links
Corrections policy
If you spot an error – factual, mathematical, or interpretive – email alexander@auburnai.ca. Substantive corrections are added to the post with a dated note. Cosmetic corrections (typos, formatting) are silently fixed.
Conflicts of interest
Alexander holds personal positions in Canadian index ETFs (XEQT, VFV) and individual Canadian dividend stocks. Any post discussing a security he holds will disclose that holding inline. He does NOT hold positions in any individual cryptocurrency at the time of writing, though he uses NDAX as an exchange platform for occasional crypto purchases.
What this content is NOT
NorthMarkets is educational and informational only. It is not financial advice, not investment advice, not tax advice, and not a substitute for talking with a licensed Canadian financial professional about your specific situation. If you act on anything you read here without independent verification or professional consultation, that is your decision, and you accept the consequences. The content reflects research available at the time of publication and may become outdated as conditions change.
YMYL transparency
We recognize that financial content falls into Google’s “Your Money or Your Life” category, which carries a higher standard for accuracy and trustworthiness. We aim to meet that standard by:
- Citing sources for any non-obvious claim
- Distinguishing data points from interpretation
- Including dissenting views where they exist among credible analysts
- Updating posts when underlying conditions change materially
- Maintaining a corrections log accessible via this email
